VOLUNTEER
Thank you, very much, for your support
The story of our volunteer programme…
The Château de Riolas is a historical home in need of considerable renovation. The ongoing work and restoration of the 32 rooms of the Château, its Gentilhommière, Stables, and Gardens are made possible through the work of volunteers who join us all year round from all over the world. The restoration of the Château would not be possible without the unending support and help from its volunteers.
The focus of the restoration currently looks towards the exterior of the Château through an extensive project to restore the exterior stone walls, grounds, and create new gardens and spaces in the Château’s impressive 7 hectares of land as well as interior works such as new carpentry fittings and wooden floors.
Depending on the time of year, we offer a few volunteer positions out through the online community and work-exchange site called Workaway. The website works both ways where workawayers can find us and reach out, or we can find them! This works exceptionally well when we are looking for workawayers with gardening, housekeeping or carpentry skills. If you wish to volunteer and be part of the Château’s 200-year-old history, we kindly ask that you contact us via our Workaway profile here.
Please note we will only offer a few positions each year and will choose volunteers based on a few critical considerations, among them experience in the area of the position and how we feel an applicant would work and fit with our permanent team.
Also, we respectfully request that volunteers are available to stay for a minimum of two weeks. Due to limited heating in the Château, we can only offer a few volunteer positions during the late Fall and Winter.
As always, the Château de Riolas, and its growing team, thank you very much for your interest in being part of its renewed and ongoing restoration journey.

From October 2023 to August 2024 we have welcomed 76 volunteers to Château de Riolas
They have come from all over the world and stayed for varying lengths of time. Some for just 2 weeks and some for 2 months!
So far, 19% of our volunteers have come from the USA & 18% from Australia
But we’ve had so many other nationalities come to us! They have also travelled from Azerbaijan, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
They have backgrounds in many different professions and are a range of ages
Whether they’re taking some time off work to travel, are a teacher in their school holidays, or retired, we have had a whole host of talented people join us. Eating breakfast, lunch and dinner together, there is always great table conversation.
